XRP Ledger is a blockchain-based payment protocol facilitating cross-border payments and Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) management. Contrary to most blockchains, XRP Ledger does not utilize a Proof-of-Work (PoW) or Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism. The network relies on a consensus mechanism based upon Cobalt, a Byzantine-Fault Tolerant (BFT) Governance framework for open networks, and the Ripple Protocol Consensus Algorithm.
